The link to our second drafted treatment plan

http://www.slideshare.net/yusra99/treatment-pitch-by-ela-yusra-and-jamsheed-2nd-draft

Team Meetings

Today, Ela, Jamsheed and myself discussed the issues around the 'male running scene' and came to a conclusion of changing it to comedy instead of having action and adventure. Also, we have equally shared out the pre-production bullet points:

  • Ela-Release forms + Risk Assessments
  • Jamsheed- Storyboarding+ Recce
  • Yusra(Myself)- Scripting + production schedule

We still have not been able to upload our 2nd draft of treatment as of the technical internet issues at college also, I have no clue on how to do it on my own computer!

Treatment Feedback

Ela, Jamsheed and myself presented a power-point slide presentation on our treatment for our short film today, and we were given the following feedbacks:

  • Change the scene of the boy being chased- I agree that we should change it as we have no significant idea to replace that scenario with. Hence, we replaced it on our second drafted treatment plan.
  • We were question by our class 'why were we using animation?'- In a sense, I did understand the class' confusion towards this, as it did not make sense to have animation in an action and adventure scene; therefore, we changed the entire plot of why the boy was running and our final plan for it is in the second drafted treatment plan.

Due to me not being able to upload the power-point presentation tonight, I will be uploading it tomorrow with the assistance of my media teacher! =)

Feedback

Discussed ideas with the team and finalised one of many ideas. Treatment was given as homework today, my group split the bullet points between the 3 of us.

This Was Done Over Summer! A2 Media Studies Preparatory Task- Research for Advanced Portfolio- First Draft

A2 Media Studies Preparatory Task- Research for Advanced Portfolio
Short Film Task:
My first narrative will have a hybrid of drama and romance; it will be about a tragic love story of a Muslim girl and an Indian boy falling in love; however her parents are extremely strict on religion and they do not accept their daughter to marry a Non-Muslim. Yet, no one discovers about their relationship; until people begin ‘talking’. So therefore, the devoted companions believe they should part away from each other; however the story worsens as she finds out she is pregnant which makes the couple reconnect but people begin spreading rumours about the youngest sister to her elder brothers and they were told by an informer how their sister is heading to a clinic with her boyfriend. Immediately, they follow the couple and see them romantically entwining themselves with one another. Both brothers get out of the car, begin beating the boy and drag the sister to the car. They then confront her to the parents and she is told by her father she is moving out to the Midlands. Whilst, the father and the daughter walk to the car with her bags she sees her boyfriend calling her. Although, her father pushes him away and gets her in the car, she looks back one more time (Hand on the window crying) and turns away thinking about the memories they once shared (Flashback) and then rubs her stomach believing that is all she has left of him.
The predominant targeted audience is teenage girls aged sixteen and onwards going through a phase of restrictions and not being allowed to fall in love with the person they want to and also pregnant teenagers of not knowing how to control a situation they are not ready to handle. This idea is similar to the following films: “The princess and the marine, the lost valentine and the best exotic marigold hotel.” For location I have a concept of neutral locations the park, a house and clinic/hospital this will contain a minimum of six to seven characters and I will utilise props of a pregnancy test, car, phones and pictures to add a realistic effect to the entire scenery.

My second narrative is an action comedy which will be about two boys on a mission to deliver a package to a ‘mob mafia’; however they encounter many problems and difficulties in achieving this goal for example: the package being mistaken for money in an envelope- going to different people or the package being eaten by a dog, hence making the boys wait until the dog lets out its faeces or the package being used by a child. The targeted audience for this scenario will be mainly boys aged fifteen and onwards as of the main characters also because boys understand the humour that will be displayed in the short film. This is comparable to Mr Bean’s Holiday, Overnight Delivery or American Pie: The Wedding. For this synopsis, I will be utilising exterior areas of a park, a deprived car park area and a child’s home in order to ensemble all the ideas together which will also include 5 actors: A dangerous mafia, a silly rebellious teenage girl, two troublesome boys  and a little girl or boy and a vicious looking dog.
My final plot of a chronicle will be relating to a fantasy theme adventure romance of a disobedient teenage girl receiving an anonymous present a week before her sixteenth birthday, she is given a magical packet granting “three wishes”. The girl is very gullible and wishes for what she longed the most; but fails to realise the fate of reality will be jeopardy if she doesn’t undo her wishes. On an adventure, seeking to rewind back to reality the girl is accompanied with a boy who she meets and ushers her to helping her reverse the wishes and get back to reality. The audience for this scenario will be girls aged twelve and onwards who enjoy watching characters (mainly females) who are beckoned to go on a venture to restore peace to the main land. Films which are similar to this are: Thirteen Going on Thirty, Just My Luck and Beastly as they all consist of a character being on a quest in order to regain normality. This film will feature a maximum 4 characters: parents, the teenage girl and a teenage boy.  I will be using a girl’s bedroom to portray a stereotypical teenage room, a shopping mall and a part of an institution.
Two film extracts
My first extract: ‘The princess and the marine’ was released in 2001, by ‘Mike Robe’.  Their story relates to my first narrative as it consists of two lovers enclosing their love from the world and facing the barriers of being separated. The plot follows a linear narrative structure as the main predominant characters represent Jason as a strong, brave obedient soldier who is fighting for his country; whereas Meriam is connoted as a vulnerable, rebellious teenager being imprisoned in her home. The tracking shot is mostly used in the scenes as it follows the subject and then there is zoom in on the subjects face in order to reveal their facial expressions. This is shown at a fast cutting rate as of the dramatic actions being displayed accompanied with diegetic sounds growing louder therefore; making the scenery more suspense for the targeted audience who are multi-cultural teenage girls aged fifteen and over that enjoy reminiscing and day dreaming of being entangled with a companion against the world. It features exotic locations of a desert and natural surroundings of social life for example: shopping mall, cinema, bedroom, home and school. Also Meriam dressing in colourful outfits or school uniform and Jason in his army wear shows the contrast of an imbalance of the two beings being together.
My second example: ‘Top Boy’ although it is a TV series, directed by ‘Yann Demange’ in 2011 it has element which are similar to my second concept as it pursues a linear narrative about:  A thriving but underground drugs business is being run by Dushane and his friend Sully to become the wealthiest men on the block. To live prosperous Dushane and Sully go into corporation with top don Bobby Raikes. Enmity with Kamale and his gang results in their loan from Raikes being stolen, and they swear vengeance. Thirteen-year old Ra'Nell gradually gets trapped into the gang and drug business as his mother Lisa has a breakdown and is hospitalised - with distressing consequences. Similarly, this coincides with my plot as it depicts a boy on a journey seeking to get out gangs, drug and violence and help his mother recover from her illness. The characters: ‘Dushane and Sully’ are connoted as immature rude, egoistic arrogant men who are on a quest to find money; however Ra’nell  being on thirteen is seen as a mature, polite boy in search of helping his mother to get back on her feet. All characters display the hard brutal truth of ‘survival of the fittest’.  All scenes have a fast cutting rate as of the rapid action taking place and loud non-diegetic sounds to build up the performance of the norms of the deprived London life. It also includes a tracking shot following the subject and a zoom shot to denote the characters body language, which ensures the audience feel involved in the scene and the surroundings. This is aided by the mise-en-scene of the characters wearing sports branded outfits for example: Nike or adidas with a pair of jeans and trainers this suggests casual ‘cool’ clothing to the targeted audience. In addition with Ra’Nell being is school uniform can aswell show unequal standards he has towards Dushane or Sully as he is portrayed as a ‘school boy or youth’. The predominant targeted audience for this scenario is mainly focused at a broad multicultural range of teenagers who undergo the pressure of having standards towards bad influences.

Creative Ideas

Today, Jamsheed and I looked at different shorts in order to gain a narrative structure for our film. Animation was a topic we predominantly discussed and most probably will use within our film.
